Wednesday, May 25th was "National Senior Fitness Day" and The Pointe went all out to honor the occasion. If you are familiar with The Pointe, you already know that we have an extensive and varied catalog of fitness activities and therapies; both for the body and the brain. Program Director, Angie Garbaczewski, incorporated many of these activities into the day-long event and even the staff got involved. Many wore their workout clothes and participated along side the residents during some of the programs. National Senior Fitness Day-Schedule of Events
9:00am-Dakim Brain Fitness (Computer based, brain fitness programs) 10:30am-Body Flex (Daily stretching exercises) 11:00am-Walking Group (A club that meets 3 days a week to walk, rain or shine) LUNCH
1:45pm-Laughter Yoga (Unique form of yoga that incorporates laughter into the ENERGY SNACK (Lo-cal, frozen yogurt bars)
3:00pm-Chair Tai Chi (One of our newest programs, chair tai chi is a Though many of the residents participate in one or more of these activities on a regular basis, there was even a larger turnout for the day's events. Laughter yoga was especially popular. Once the group started laughing, you couldn't get then to stop, which the instructor, Rita Lopienski, pointed out was a good thing. Chair Tai Chi, led by Magda Szymczyk, our meditation instructor, is fairly new, but extremely popular among the residents. Many new faces attended the session on Wednesday and said they would definitely participate in the program on a regular basis. We all know the importance of exercising and staying fit. It becomes even more important as we get older. Finding new and fun ways to exercise, helps to keep people motivated. The staff at The Pointe is always looking for unique activities that are interesting and beneficial to our residents. |
