On January 30th, The Pointe celebrated it's 7th anniversary by throwing a party for the residents, their families and staff. Also in attendance was Cook County Commisioner, Joan Murphy, who also is the daughter of resident, Connie O'Malley. Joan gave a heartfelt speech that after a lenghty search for a place for her mother to move to, she knew immediately when she walked throught The Pointe's doors that she and her mother had found the place to live. Throughout the afternoon, there was also live music provided by Phil and Amy, local cabaret style singers who sang and played songs such as Irish Eyes are Smiling, Let This Be Our Prayer and Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Resident Ida Gangler commented that this was the nicest party The Pointe had hosted. She said "I've been given such elegant treatment. It makes me feel special." Many of the reisdent echoed Ida's comment. With crisp black and white linens, the dining room was transformed into an elegant cocktail-style party. The servers, in special uniforms, served escch guest individually. With 6 different cakes, including a homemeade master piece by David Flores and his daughter, the residents had many options. There were also several different punches to choose from, but the champagne punch was the crowd favorite.
Overall, the afternoon was a huge success. The event showcased the "family like" community that The Pointe has been since it opened it's doors 7 years ago. With 10 original staff members and several orginal tentants, The Pointe has achieved a familiar and comforting environment to both live and work in. We are looking forward to another 7 years of sharing our lives with old friends and the new ones to come. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HELPED MAKE THIS EVENT POSSIBLE.
