Joyce Rinkevicius-New Day Director

Joyce started working at The Pointe, at the front desk, about 8 years ago, on December 19, 2003. The building hadn’t been opened long and just had a handful of residents at the time. She had come in to pick up her daughter, Josie, and met her boss at the time. Joyce expressed interest in working at The Pointe and about three weeks later, she received a call and jumped at the chance. It didn’t take her long to get to know all of the residents. Manager, Rita Ball, to recommend Joyce for a position in our New Day Neighborhood (Memory Support Area), to lead activities and work with the Program Director. Though she hadn’t spent much time in New Day, Joyce was excited at the prospect of leading activities and being more involved in the residents’ daily lives. She immediately set to work, visiting each resident in their apartments and becoming friends. Joyce says, “It wasn’t long before everyone would come out of their rooms when they heard my voice in the morning. They were excited to find out what we were going to do that day.” She also states that, “I found my heart in New Day.” Joyce continues to organize and lead exciting new activities that aren’t just entertaining, but stimulating and engaging as well. Executive Director, Zoe Espitia, says of Joyce, “Her passion and creativity made her a perfect fit for New Day. She comes to work each day with enthusiasm and genuine love for all of the residents.”

Joyce conducts various activities, such as Disco Body Flex (A music driven variation of the regular Body Flex program), arts & crafts, birthday parties, outings & field trips. The group also enjoys the many, varied entertainers that perform at The Pointe, as well. Of course, Bingo is a favorite game, but Wii Bowling is a close second. Joyce commented that, “It’s such a wonderful feeling that the residents are as excited to see me as I am them. We really have become like a family.”
