Kilpatrick Ave.  On August 24th, The Pointe at Kilpatrick threw a party in honor of long time resident, Catherine Walker, who was celebrating her 100th birthday.  Held in the main dining room at The Pointe, the party was attended by many of the residents, Catherine's friends, staff and some local officials.  Joan Murphy, Cook County Commissioner, presented Catherine with a certificate of the formal resolution to honor Catherine by the Cook County Board. Ms. Murphy then spoke to the large crowd, giving them a brief history of Catherine's life and then presented her with a plaque that had her life story engraved on it.  Some of the most interesting notes, were that at age 18, Catherine contracted polio and was in a wheel chair for over 3 years. Very determined, Catherine learned to walk again and at a hundred is still walking. During WWII, she made gas masks and worked in a radio factory for 20 years.  Always outspoken, Catherine organized a walk out at the facotry to improve working conditions and wages.  She has always remained active and involved in her community. Catherine has been living at The Pointe for 7 years and still volunteers in New Day, The Pointe's Alzheimer's neighborhood. She also bakes many cakes and makes and sells jewelry.
