Low income financial assistance Medicaid in Illinois is sometimes referred to as Public Aid and is administered by Health Care and Family Services (HFS). The Supportive Living program in Illinois allows for a person with financial limitations to apply for Medicaid, therefore making this type of housing very affordable for almost anyone who qualifies. This financial component is the difference between a Supportive Living community and an Assisted Living community in Illinois. The Pointe at Kilpatrick Supportive Living Residence assists any family in need with the Medicaid application process. Once approved an annual recertification is required. HFS Medical Benefits is a comprehensive healthcare program that covers doctor visits, prescription drugs, hospital care, emergency room coverage, long term care, durable medical equipment and a variety of other healthcare services. The Department of Healthcare and Family Services has obtained a "waiver" for the Supportive Living program to allow payment for services that are not routinely covered by Medicaid. These include personal care, homemaking, laundry, medication supervision, social activities, recreation and 24-hour staff to meet residents' scheduled and unscheduled needs. The resident is responsible for paying the cost of room and board at The Pointe at Kilpatrick.
