Introduction: Pointe at Kilpatrick blog

Here, at The Pointe at Kilpatrick, we are opening a forum for the discussion of senior health care issues.  Not only is The Pointe at Kilpatrick excelling as a contemporary, supportive living community, it is also striving to educate and inform the public on a variety of topics that affect seniors and those that care for them.  Our goal is to provide current information from residents, family members, professional staff, care givers and the medical/scientific field at large.

One issue in particular will be highlighted. That of brain fitness.  The latest studieshttp://www.naturalnews.com/027802_brain_fitness.html show that maintaining a "healthy brain" can deter memory loss and cognitive deterioration that occur during aging as well as for those that may suffer from Alzheimer's http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alzheimer's_disease and other forms of dementia. By promoting a lifestyle that creates healthier brains the quality of life for every senior is improved.  Many facets to maintaining a healthy brain will be discussed.  This includes diet, physical exercise and mental stimulation.  These are all conditions that individuals can modify to their current lifestyle, either as prevention or reparation.

The roles of care givers will also be covered throughout, whether they be professional or personal.  Creating and maintaining a healthy relationship between a patient and care giver is as important for the well being of those attending to the needs of a patient as it to the patient themselves.  The differences and challenges of professional care givers to that of a personal attendee (such as spouse, family member, friend...) will be discussed, with experiences to help guide those in similar situations.

Thank you for any comments or experiences you would like to share. May it be a happy and HEALTHY new year.
