Dorothy Jensen
Dorothy is one of our most recognized residents and will be celebrating her 5 year anniversary at The Pointe next month. She is one of the most dedicated volunteers and is always willing to help out. She is constantly working on projects and sends several care packages a year to soldiers fighting overseas. She makes cross stitched crosses that contain a poem for the soldiers to carry with them. She also makes name plates for the resident’s walkers and wheelchairs. In addition to her wonderful craft skills, Dorothy is also an extraordinary minister and distributes communion at the Communion and Rosary services each Thursday morning. She also leads the Prayer Services every sunday morning and the monthly mass. If this wasn’t enough, she also sits on the New Resident Committee and is always on hand to greet new residents that arrive at The Pointe and “show them the ropes.” Dorothy is quick to tell everyone that she loves the care she receives and the independence she has, coming and going as she pleases. She values the friends she has made at The Pointe and considers everyone family. In addition to her “Pointe family”, Dorothy has a large family of her own. She was married for 47 and half years to her husband Charlie. Dorothy always has a huge smile when talks about Charlie and it is evident that he was a wonderful man, husband and father. Together, they had 5 children. Today, Dorothy has 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. During the years, Dorothy spent most of her “working” years in phone sales and was a very successful saleswoman. This is obvious to anyone who has seen Dorothy work the Bake Sale table during special events. She never asks “Would you like to buy…”, she says “How many would you like?” Needless to say, she sells out her goods and always helps bring in money. Dorothy is a very special person and helps make The Pointe a very special place to live and work. For those who haven’t met her yet, she is easily recognized by the butterfly necklace and butterfly pin she wears everyday. Another signature of Dorothy’s is her “special” dance-walk in which she shakes her hips as she walks down the hall singing “cha cha cha”. That always brings a smile to everyone’s face.
