Pointe employee of the month, August 2011, Zoe Espitia

Zoe Espitia - Executive Director

I grew up in Mt. Greenwood, Chicago and Blue Island and am of Mexican and Greek descent. I am the youngest of 2 siblings and graduated from Eisenhower H.S. in Blue Island. I attended Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI where I received a Bachelors degree in Social Work.

Ever since I was a young girl I was passionate about caring for others and helping them become successful as individuals. I love to motivate people and work as a team. I believe in equal rights and opportunity for all and much of my focus has always stemmed from these values. My last professor in college said, “Your first job will be your worst, but will train you for success and teach you right from wrong.” I knew what she meant once I started working as a social worker in a nursing home that has long been closed down due to multiple deficiencies. This was the beginning of my career in the healthcare industry. In 2004, I was hired as the social worker with The Pointe at Kilpatrick. Within a few months, I became the Executive Director in Training and after 1 year I was the Executive Director, overseeing the daily operations of the building.

In 2007, I pursued a career in my other passion, music. I grew up with a grandfather that traveled the world as a guitarist in a Greek band for 25 years and an uncle that had more vinyl records than the local record shop. I always enjoyed music and studied every aspect of it. In 2008 I decided it was time to embark as an entrepreneur and left The Pointe to make my music business a success. In 2010 I was asked to take the position as the Executive Director again and oversee the daily operations of the building. In the two years I was gone I was able to start a family and build my personal business into a success and was excited to rejoin the team at The Pointe once again. After all, the same great team was still here to welcome me back with open arms. I also realized how much I missed everyone, especially the residents. I am glad to be back and enjoy working with all the great staff here and laughing with the residents once again.
