Fourth of July Celebrations

As mentioned in a previous announcement, The Pointe kicked off the 4th of July weekend with an Art Bench tour inspired by “America the Beautiful”. The rest of the week was filled with entertainment. First up was a show by the Double Nickle Chorus. A group made up of people 55 and older. They sang many patriotic songs, including “God Bless America” and “The Star Spangled Banner”.

On Friday, the residents were entertained by one of their favorite performers, Frank Rossi.  Frank stops by The Pointe several times throughout the year and never ceases to entertain the crowd. Though Frank performs all over the area, currently at the Morton Arboretum, he always greets the residents by name and engages them in his routine. Decked out in a crisp, white shirt with red bow tie and blue vest, Frank looked like a “real live nephew of my Uncle Sam.” The show was upbeat and patriotic and the residents knew the words to every song, singing proudly along with Frank.

Later in the weekend, residents enjoyed a traditional “cook-out” with grilled hamburgers, brat wursts, corn on the cob and ice cream. For afternoon snack they had cupcakes that many of the residents had previously decorated with red, white and blue frosting and sprinkles. The tables were also decorated with American flags and streamers and many of the residents were in red, white and blue.  With all of the residents having lived through at least one war, patriotism is strong at The Pointe. The staff and community are ever grateful for the sacrifices that their generation made, so that we could all be free.

Paper Sculptures

This month’s art class ventured into paper sculptures along with painting. Led by artist, Sergio “David” Rojas, the residents used acrylic paints to decorate strips of paper in varying widths and lengths.Once the strips had dried, the residents made circles with them using invisible glue and tape. David then showed them how to arrange the circles, to make globe-like sculptures. Though the shapes were the same, everyone’s came out different. Several of the residents remained after class to put the finishing touches on the creations.
